Bins clean up with new, bespoke, commercial bin storage!

Large waste bins, for example those which are used in commercial or residential areas in high volume are left unattended for long periods - especially overnight and thus, are susceptible to bin 'rummagers' (whether it be thieves or animals), vandals and adverse weather. This can cause mess and consequently rodents and generally an unpleasant or even hazardous area which could have a negative impact on a business' or location's reputation as well as cause unnecessary work and cost in the form of clean up.

The law states that businesses have a responsibility called the 'Duty of Care' (Section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990) to ensure that their waste is stored securely and disposed of in a legal manner which creates a need for secure wheelie bin storage.

We have recently had a bespoke commercial bin storage unit manufactured for a Carilion site in Whitechapel, London. The wheelie bin storage unit can have a number of individual compartments (catered to your needs) for each bin with enough space inside to continue filling as well as leaving ample space to move them into and out of the unit. Each compartment has a roller shutter than is able to be locked at the base and either be keyed alike or all differed - as required creating a secure commercial bin storage solution avoiding problems listed above.

ESF Street Furniture Display Area

ESF have designed and developed an outdoor display area in the Lisburn depot, Co Down, Northern Ireland. The area is an all Ireland resource to be utilised by branch and brand alike.

The display area was developed as a joint venture between Burdens all Ireland and ESF. An unused wasteland area in the Lisburn depot was totally revamped by landscaping it to produce an exterior area that would become an outdoor showroom for customers to view, touch and try out our street furniture, highways and exterior lighting products.

The surface area received a major facelift and was divided into different zones to add texture and movement to the display area and make it more interesting. It also mimics possible installations - such as bark mulch for a forest park area, grass for a public park, loose stones and paving for urban developments.

The products utilised represent ESF’s 4 main product portfolios –

The majority of the samples are purposely not permanently installed so that we have the option of changing and updating the display area, perhaps to focus on a certain product type or a certain collection. Thus it is forever evolving and will remain relevant to our business needs.

In September 2010 Burdens and ESF organised a 2 day launch of the new display area, opening it to all our customers and staff. The launch was a great success with over 25no customers visiting such as Council employees, contractors and architects. The general feedback was excellent with customers commenting on how useful it was to physically see and test out our products. The launch also resulted in several new sales enquiries and 2 schools projects specifications from our Simplicity and Signature Collections.

We also arranged a visit from the local press, with an article on the launch and focus on the Lisburn depot printed the week before and an article and photograph printed the week of the launch.

Our plans for 2011 are to develop the display area even further by adding more highways and exterior lighting products from our Streetwise Collection. We plan to organise another open day with a focus on our Streetwise Collection.

ESF Present ‘ESF by Sigma’ stand at ASLA Conference

ESF, in conjunction with their USA partner, Sigma Corporation, recently presented their Signature collection at the 2010 ASLA conference and EXPO in Washington DC from the 10^th – 13^th September. The ‘ESF by Sigma’ stand was one of the highlights of the show, situated at the main entrance, and positive comments on the product ranges were well received. The stand was manned by Kevin Mahoney, Street Furniture manager for the USA along with Andy and Donna from Sigma. David, Martin and Jana from MMCite also attended the exhibition and Alan Lowry, MD of ESF was there from the UK.

Over 5100 landscape architects attended the 5 day conference and many visited the ‘ESF by Sigma’ stand to discuss current and future projects for this exciting range of products. This is the 3^rd year ‘ESF by Sigma’ have exhibited at the ASLA exhibition and without doubt was the best yet in terms of feedback and potential projects.

Launch of ESF Surface Mounted Tactile Paving Products

ILE Irish Region AGM Success

Environmental Street Furniture (ESF) staff were delighted to attend the Irish Region's Institute of Lighting Engineers (ILE) AGM held in Limavady, Co Londonderry. One of the prime functions of the event was to install Robert McGonigle as Chairman. The event took place at the Radisson Roe Hotel, Limavady and was well attended by lighting engineers from the North and South of Ireland.

After 3 short technical papers, the new chairman was installed, there was a delicious lunch and some of the attendees departed to play golf whilst others went on a historical tour around the walls of Londonderry. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day and many thanks to Robert McGonigle for organising it and ESF wish him the best of luck in his new role as Chairman.

ESF attend Lightscene

Environmental Street Furniture (ESF) travelled to Kilmarnock, Scotland 6th May to attend the ILE lighting exhibition Lightscene.

The exhibition was well attended and had over 40no exhibitors including Charles Endirect and Mallatite Ltd. There
was also a number of technical papers including understanding EN40 calculations and a light lunch.
